JAPANESE SYMBOLS
1. NISSHŌKI/HI IN the MARU - “Solar Circle” - the national flag of Japan
2. KYOKU-JITSU-KI - “Flag of the Rising Sun” - Naval Japanese Flag of War.
3. HACHIJŌ KYOKU-JITSU-KI - “Flag of the Rising Sun with Eight Stripes”.
4. YATA IN the KAGAMI - Symbol of the Judô.
5. ŌKA/SAKURABANA - Flower of Cerejeira.
The reason stops for this topic was to supply to information cart occidental instructors on the Japanese symbols and its uses.
I have seen innumerable “deceits” when the people create logotipos for its schools and, depending on the used symbol, the meaning of logotipo can vary.
Let us see two deceits very common:
- To use KYOKU-JITSU-KI (2) - the flag of naval war as soon (the red sun with 16 stripes).
The use of this symbol was interrupted as part of the Treated one to San Francisco up to 30 of June of 1954, when it was readjusted By the Force of Japanese Maritime Self-defense.
This symbol evokes memories of World War II and it is not a good choice to be placed in one soon.
For historical reasons and brought up to date information, in this in case that, optimum it is to use HACHIJŌ KYOKUJITSUKI, the red sun with 8 stripes.
B - To use ŌKA (5) on the contrary of the YATA IN the KAGAMI to mention the Judô to it. The symbol of the Jūdō has, obligatorily, EIGHT sides.
The cerejeira flower - as symbol - was used for the old schools of Jūi jitsu and has FIVE sides (petals)
